When rings or items of value are donated, anything other than money, the IRS has some strict guidelines that we need to follow to maintain our status as a public charity and protect your ability to deduct the gift to the extent allowed by law.

Filling out the form

Please fill in the applicable information in Section A and Section B. If the appraised value that you obtain is more than $500, please complete Section B including the signature of the appraiser.

Please note: When you fill out the 8283 form, be sure to include your social security number in the space that says, "Identifying number." If you choose not to include it, the IRS will not be able to attribute the sale of your ring to your Social Security number. If you are interesed in receiving a write off for your donation, we recommend that you fill out the form completely. This applies to all gifts-in-kind donations. If you still have questions, please consult with your tax advisor or accountant. With This Ring will not give tax advise.

Mailing your jewelry

Mailing your jewelry

Because we know how special your ring is we want to make sure you get this part right!

Mail your jewelry and your completed IRS Form addressed to:

WTR

But before you do:

Please note:

Before mailing, please make sure that you insure your ring for the full value of the item.

Make sure to send your jewelry by registered mail, return receipt requested if you send by USPS or make sure you can track it if you send it by another delivery service. If you email us your tracking number, then we can also track it and will confirm the delivery for you by email when we receive it.

For security purposes, please address all packages to our abbreviated name, WTR.

Because of the IRS guidelines on charities that accept non-cash contributions, With This Ring cannot accept jewelry or other non-cash gifts without the completed IRS form 8283 and the appraisal when appropriate. With This Ring is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. Your gift to With This Ring is deductible to the extent allowed by law.

Get an appraisal

What if your wedding ring could save a life?

Get an appraisal

Go to your local jeweler and ask for an appraisal on your ring.

The appraisal will need to describe the jewelry including the cut, style, and estimated worth.

If you do not think the cost of an appraisal is worth the value of the ring, then you may choose to sell the ring yourself and donate the proceeds. Or, you can simply insure the ring for the esimated value the appraser gives you and we can take it from there. We will leave that up to you!
