For guys, radical giving is about chasing after the right things.
We may not wear makeup or carry around designer handbags like our female friends. Instead, we chase after awesome electronics. We drive vehicles that fit into the category of big, fast, expensive, or just plain cool. We work ourselves to the bone in pursuit of the next promotion. Success and peer validation mean everything to us.
And that's why radical giving is so important for us. Instead of working to get whatever it is we are after, radical giving teaches us to chase after what is most important: God. He is all the awesomeness and validation we need.
For girls, radical giving is about reclaiming a stolen identity.
Look at your purse. What comes to mind when you look at it? What does it say about you? Would anything change if it had a different label like Coach, Gucci or Prada?
Materialism is bred in our bones. The more things we have and the more expensive they are, the more valuable and important we think we are.
It can be surprising to find out that God doesnt share our affinity for materialism-driven status. Far from it, actually. He wants to set us free from it so we can find our identity in Him. And when we do, we find a freedom and confidence we didnt know was possible.
Radical giving is a means to that end. It is one way that we can refuse to be identified by our possessions. By holding even our most prized possessions loosely, we can learn to lean into who we are in Christ and join him in his mission.
Rich or poor, male or female, married or single, ring or not we all have something to give.
Jesus called his disciples to emulate the same radical lifestyle he did as a response to his free gift of grace. There have been many in the past two-thousand years who were courageous enough to rise to the challenge, but they have long been considered the exception.

Ordinary men and women are learning what it means to respond to the call of God. By giving up their most prized possessions, they have helped to save lives and spread the gospel in African villages.
